Belgium vs Italy – Euro 2020
Euro 2020 – Friday 2nd July 2020
It’s Belgium vs Italy in a mouth watering quarter final tie at Euro 2020. We take a look at the stats and best football tips.
Belgium play Italy on Friday in a huge quarter final match between two of the favourites to win the tournament. These two last met in the group stages at Euro 2016. Italy won that match 2-0.
The bookies rate Belgium 12/5 to win, the draw at 2/1 and Italy at 11/8.
Belgium beat Portugal 1-0 in their round of 16 knockout game, Thorgan Hazard scored the winner. Italy beat Austria 2-1 with goals from Chiesa and Pessina in extra time.
Belgium – PL 4 | Won 4 | GF 8 | GA 1
The Belgians have been in excellent form and have won all four games they have played in the tournament conceding only one goal. They were not really tested in the group stage but knocking out Portugal in the round of 16 is impressive. Belgium only achieved a xG of 0.2 in that game which suggests they didn’t create too many chances and they surrendered 57% of possession. I would expect that to be the game plan again and Italy to dominate possession, corners and shots as Portugal did with Belgium solid but always a threat on the counter.
Shots on Target:
- Romelu Lukaku – 1.02 SOT per 90
- Thorgan Hazard – 1.01 SOT per 90
- Kevin De Bruyne – 0.99 SOT per 90
Italy – PL 4 | Won 3 | GF 9 | GA 1
The Italians looked impressive during the group stages winning all three games but struggled against Austria in the round of 16 and needed extra time to go through. I don’t think Italy have really been tested yet and i don’t think we really know how good they are. Against Austria the Italians managed to hit 26 shots but conceded 16 as well so it was a pretty open game.
Shots on Target:
- Ciro Immobile – 1.07 SOT per 90
- Lorenzo Insigne – 1.41 SOT per 90
- Manuel Locatelli – 1.70 SOT per 90
Betting Tips: I expect Belgium to sit back, soak up pressure and look to hit on the counter. I would favour Belgium personally as we know what they offer, whereas i still think Italy are untested against a top quality side.
