Netherlands vs Ukraine
Euro 2020 – Sunday 13th June 20.00
Holland host Ukraine in Group C on Sunday at the Johan Cruijff ArenA – Amsterdam. We take a look at the stats and best football tips.
The Netherlands kick off their Euro 2020 campaign on Sunday and they face Ukraine in Amsterdam. The Dutch national team didn’t qualify for Euro 2016 whilst Ukraine have qualified for the last three tournaments in a row.
Austria and North Macedonia make up the group. The bookies rate Netherlands 1/33 to qualify, with Ukraine 3/10, Austria 4/11 and North Macedonia 5/2.
Current Ukraine coach Andriy Shevchenko featured in the last match between the two sides, a 1-1 draw in Donetsk in 2010.
Netherlands – PL 8 | Won 6 | GF 24 | GA 7
The Netherlands finished second to Germany in their Euro 2020 qualification group and managed to beat Germany in their home fixture 4-2. They lost the away match 2-3 so certainly can’t be accused of parking the bus against the bigger teams. They also dominated possession 51 and 54% in both games and that goes up to 60-70% against lesser sides and is probably due to a strong midfield including Frankie De Jong and Georginio Wijnaldum. Defensively they have recorded nine clean sheets in thirteen matches.
Goalscorers and Shots on Target:
- Georginio Wijnaldum – 7 goals in 5 appearances & 2.80SOT per 90
- Memphis Depay – 3 goals in 4 appearances & 2.00 SOT per 90
- Ryan Babel – 2 goals in 4 appearances & 1.41 SOT per 90
Ukraine – PL 8 | Won 6 | GF 17 | GA 4
The Ukraine have flown under the radar but come into the tournament in red hot form and won a qualification group which included a Portugal side they beat at home and drew with away. They also drew 1-1- with France and are 15 games unbeaten. It’s a very impressive feat given the opposition although they did draw five games in a row. All five finished with both teams scoring so whilst they have only conceded four goals in Euro 2020 qualification defensively they may not be as good as that record suggests. Ukraine have generally conceded possession against better teams with 30-40% against Portugal and France and they were dominated on corners in all three games.
Goalscorers and Shots on Target:
- Roman Yaremchuk – 4 goals in 5 appearances & 2.36 SOT per 90
- Ruslan Malinovskyi – 3 goals in 6 appearances & 1.37 SOT per 90
Betting Tips: I think Netherlands will dominate the game with possession and corners and Ukraine will look to hit on the counter. I think Ukraine look great value given their recent form.

William Hill Euro 2020 Deal – £5 Free Bets
William Hill are offering a very good deal with a £10 bet on the tournament winner getting a £5 free bet for every group match won. The best teams to back there would be Belgium who share a group with Denmark, Finland and Russia and would expect to win all three games or Spain with Sweden, Poland and Slovakia. You may even want to go with England who have Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic but i do think the Croatia game will be tough.
