Spain vs Sweden
Euro 2020 – Monday 14th June 20.00
On Monday Spain take on Sweden at Euro 2020 in Group E. We take a look at the stats and best football tips.
Spain’s Euro 2020 campaign kicks off on Monday and they play Sweden a team they faced in their qualification group. The head to head record favours Spain who have won 3 of the last 5 but the most recent fixture between the two was a 1-1 draw. Sweden have beaten Spain but that was back in 2006.
Poland and Slovakia make up the group and the bookies expect Spain to win it with a battle for second between Poland and Sweden. The bookies rate Spain 1/40 to qualify, with Poland 1/3, Sweden 1/2 and Slovakia 6/4.
Spain’s winning run against Sweden came to an end in 2019 with a 1-1 draw in Solna. Marcus Berg gave Sweden the lead and Rodrigo equalised in extra time.
Spain – PL 10 | Won 8 | GF 31 | GA 5
The Spanish national team are 15 in a row unbeaten and that is quite an achievement considering they do look like a team in transition. They haven’t faced the best of teams in that run but did play Portugal recently in a friendly and that was a 0-0 draw. As you might expect they have dominated possession in all 15 usually achieving 70%+ of possession and in four matches 80+%. They have scored an average of three goals per game and defensively have kept 7 clean sheets and in their qualification group only conceded 5 goals in 10 matches. The Spanish have a good mix of youth and experience with players such as Sergio Busquets, Thiago and Cesar Azpilicueta leading youngsters Ferran Torres and Pedri. The Spanish are very strong in midfield and now have Laporte in defence, but the question mark for me is scoring enough goals to really compete with the best teams.
Goalscorers and Shots on Target:
- Alvaro Morata – 4 goals in 4 appearances & 1.81 SOT per 90
- Rodrigo – 3 goals in 4 appearances & 1.01 SOT per 90
- Gerard Moreno – 3 goals in 3 appearances & 1.53 SOT per 90
Sweden – PL 10 | Won 6 | GF 23 | GA 9
The Swedes are in good form and have only lost once in their last 15 matches, that was the 0-3 loss to Spain. They have not faced any other top sides in that run though and the best side would be Norway who they drew with twice and they finished third in the group. The Swedes are on a run of wins in a row and regardless of the quality of opposition confidence will be high. Against Spain they managed 25 and 26% possession so likely have a long night in store.
Goalscorers and Shots on Target:
- Robin Quaison – 3 goals in 7 appearances & 1.25 SOT per 90
- Alexander Isak – 3 goals in 4 appearances & 1.34 SOT per 90
- Marcus Berg – 2 goals in 6 appearances & 1.60 SOT per 90
Betting Tips: It’s going to be tough for Sweden, both previous games featured plenty of corners and that’s the direction i will be heading.
