Brentford vs Arsenal
Premier League | Friday 13th August | 20.00
It’s the opening weekend of the Premier League and newly promoted Brentford host Arsenal. We take a look at the stats and best football tips.
This game could be an absolute cracker with newly promoted Brentford in fine attacking form in the Championship last season and with Arsenal never looking all that solid, i think Brentford could cause them some real problems. It’s a massive test for Arsenal and we will find out pretty quickly how their season is going to go.
Expected team (3-5-2): David Raya, Kristoffer Ajer, Pontus Jansson, Ethan Pinnock, Sergi Canos, Vitaly Janelt, Christian Nørgaard, Frank Onyeka, Rico Henry, Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo.
Brentford have finally made the Premier League after 9 unsuccessful attempts at the play offs and they will be raring to get started. Ivan Toney is the star man and his goals will be crucial to any success Brentford have. He managed an incredible 31 goals last season, with a further 2 in the play offs. Manager Thomas Frank has been the man that has transformed Brentford and has implemented an attractive and exciting style of play that should lead to plenty of goals in Brentford games. They managed 159 over the last two Championship seasons and were top scorers both times.
Expected team (4-2-3-1): Bernd Leno, Calum Chambers, Ben White, Pablo Mari Villar, Kieran Tierney, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Nicolas Pepe, Emile Smith-Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal are a team that sometimes sparkle but usually fail to keep up with the consistency of the top sides. I like Ben White but i don’t think spending £50 million on him is the best use of Arsenal’s transfer funds. Saka and Smith Rowe sparkled last year but the team is probably too reliant on it’s youngsters and the experienced players such as Aubameyang need to step up this year. I think this will be a tough game for Arsenal but if they can come away with the three points then it sets them up perfectly to kick on and have a good season. A loss would put them under real pressure already.
The first few games of the season are difficult to judge without recent competitive stats to go on but i do think there is plenty of value on offer here. Both sides look like they have a goal in them and the 8/11 on Both Teams to Score appeals. Shots on Target offers plenty of value and Arsenal players in particular offer some attractive odds but we are keeping our SOT Value Stats for Gold Plan Members this year.
