International Friendly – Spain vs Portugal

International Friendly – Friday 4th June 19.30

We have a huge International Friendly on Friday as Spain take on Portugal at the Wanda Metropolitano. We take a look at the Stats and best Football Tips.

On Friday when this game is scheduled it will be one week until Euro 2020 kicks off. That will ensure the players are keen to find form and get off to a good start.

These are two very good sides and both among the favorites to win Euro 2020. As per our Euro 2020 Outright Betting Article Spain are 15/2 fourth favorites whilst Portugal are fifth favorites at 8/1. I actually think Portugal look like they have the better side but they are longer odds as they are in a much stronger group alongside France and Germany. Portugal will therefore probably take this friendly very seriously as they need to hit the ground running in the group stages.

As far as potential line ups go Portugal are expected to be very strong with Christiano Ronaldo leading the line alongside Bruno Fernandes and Diego Jota. Spain’s side has plenty of quality with Thiago Alacantra and Ferran Torres expected to start.

Spain – Form

The most recent match for Spain was a 3-1 win over Kosovo in April. The goals came from from Dani Olmo, Manchester City winger Ferran Torres and Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno. They beat Georgia 1-2 in the game before that and drew 1-1 with Greece prior to that. Defensively that sounds a big worry as those sides are not world beaters. They also conceded against Switzerland but kept a clean sheet surprisingly against Germany to make it four games where both teams scored out of five. Spain have scored an impressive thirteen goals in those five games.

Portugal – Form

The most recent match for Portugal was a 1-3 victory over Luxembourg in March. Goals from Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Palhinha secured the win. Prior to that Portugal drew 2-2 with Serbia and beat Azerbaijan 1-0. Three of Portugal’s last five games finished with both sides hitting the net and Portugal conceded in four of those. Portugal have scored nine goals in their last five games.

Betting Tips: I think it’s fair to say both sides have been better going forward than defensively scoring roughly two goals per game on average and conceding in the majority of matches. I would expect to see both sides find the net and i would side with Portugal being the better side but Spain have a good, experienced side so i certainly wouldn’t write them off.

William Hill are offering a very good deal with a £10 bet on the tournament winner getting a £5 free bet for every group match won. The best teams to back there would be Belgium who share a group with Denmark, Finland and Russia and would expect to win all three games or Spain with Sweden, Poland and Slovakia. You may even want to go with England who have Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic but i do think the Croatia game will be tough.
